What I Do //
I specialise in on-site medical cover for companies, organisations, and individuals requiring solo medics at their site or event: film & TV shoots, pubs & clubs, sports, concerts, band tours, fundraisers, and many more. These services are perfect for those who require additional qualified first aiders or medics in order to comply with HSE regulations and insurance requirements, but, do not require a full team or an ambulance crew. I can also provide additional staffing to other medical providers who require additional numbers to meet their requirements or cover sickness and absences.
The Law //
The Health and Safety (First-Aid) Regulations 1981 require employers to provide adequate and appropriate equipment, facilities and personnel to ensure their employees receive immediate attention if they are injured or taken ill at work. As an employer, it is your legal duty to ensure you have enough suitably trained first-aiders, as well as appropriate equipment and facilities for providing first aid. These Regulations apply to all workplaces. Whilst these regulations do not include members of the public, the Health and Safety Executive strongly recommends that employers include the public in their first-aid needs assessment and make provision for them.
Most insurance providers and licensing conditions now also require the presence of trained first aiders on-site when carrying out certain activities and hosting events. I can provide my own patient report forms (PRFs) and workplace accident books to help you with your reporting obligations under HSE regulations and legislation.
Martyn's Law//
The Terrorism (Protection of Premises) Act 2025 also known as "Martyn's Law" officially became law on 3rd April 2025. This new legislation places a requirement on venues to have adequate provisions in place in the event of a terror attack. Martyn’s Law applies to publicly accessible premises and events that meet all these criteria:
-
Used for qualifying activities such as entertainment, retail, food and drink, worship, education; and
-
Have a capacity of 200 or more people; and
-
Are either permanent premises or temporary events with controlled access.
We have the life-saving equipment you need to not just stay compliant with the new legislation, but to ultimately reduce physical harm and save lives with adequate public protection measures. Everyone at OnMedics is qualified to deliver life-saving emergency treatment in the event of a major incident; this includes the use of defibrillators, tourniquets, wound packing, blast dressings, chest seals, haemostatic dressings, airways management, burns treatment, and casualty triaging.
The Facts //
According to a British Red Cross Study, up to 59% of deaths are the result of an injury which may have been prevented if first aid had been administered immediately.⁽¹⁾
Between 2024-2025 there was an estimated 680,000 "non-fatal injuries" in the workplace and there were over 53,000 claims against employers for workplace injuries. 51% of them were categorised as "serious," meaning the total claim exceeded £25,000.⁽²⁾
According to HSE data, a fatal employee accident results in financial costs of £119,200 to the employer on average. Non-fatal injuries come at a financial cost of £1,900 to the employer on average, but this depends on factors like the length of time a worker is out, when an employee is in incapacitated for at least 7 days the cost is £7,800 on average, while shorter incapacitation cost around £120. Quick and effective response reduces downtime, helps employees recover faster, and minimises the impact of accidents on productivity.⁽³⁾

The Risk //
These are some of the factors that will be considered when looking at covering your event:
-
Previous event data. For example, whether you've run the event before and the previous injury statistics
-
The type of event. For example, whether it’s a charity fundraiser or full contact sport
-
Is it indoors or outdoors?
-
The type of venue
-
Potential patients. For example, just your staff and employees, members of the public and participants of the event
-
Amount of attendees (an estimation of what you might need is 1 Medic per 500 people)
-
The kind of activity being carried out and its risk assessment
-
Time of year (this is mostly relevant to events being hosted outdoors)
