Overview

This CPD course provides focused training on the recognition and management of medical incidents in remote and wilderness environments.

Designed as an enhancement to existing first aid knowledge, the course explores the challenges of providing care where access to emergency services may be delayed and resources are limited.

Training is practical and scenario-based, reflecting real-world situations such as outdoor activities, remote events, and rural environments. Emphasis is placed on problem-solving, casualty management over extended periods, and adapting techniques to suit the environment.

The course builds confidence in managing incidents where help may not be immediately available, ensuring participants can respond safely and effectively in challenging environments.

  • Scene safety and environmental risk assessment

  • Primary survey and extended casualty care (C-ABCDE approach)

  • Management of injuries in remote settings (fractures, wounds, burns)

  • Hypothermia, heat illness, and dehydration

  • Improvised equipment and resource management

  • Prolonged casualty care and monitoring

  • Decision-making and escalation in remote environments

  • Communication and coordination for evacuation

  • Planning and preparation for wilderness settings
